Known as Cervicogenic Headache. What is Tension Headache?

It is a type of headache originated from our neck.

There are 7 bones in our neck, which we refer to as vertebrae. Cervicogenic headache is usually caused by irritation of the top 3 bones in our neck and the soft tissues around them.

However, many conditions can mimic cervicogenic headache such as neck artery dysfunction, rotator cuff strain (shoulder) and even brain pathology.

What are the common causes?

  • Injury to neck such as car accident
  • Poor posture such as constant looking down when using phones, slouched posture when using computer
  • Chronic Stress
  • Age-related changes such as arthritis in neck joints.

What are the main symptoms?

  • Headache on the same side of the head consistently
  • Stiff and sore neck
  • Stiff and sore shoulder
  • Heaviness behind your eyes

How can we help?

  • Comprehensive head-to-toe assessment to find out the causes of your discomfort and all related contributing factors.
  • 100% Hands-on treatment to address any mobility issues related to nerves, muscles and joints.
  • Education on proper posture, workstation set-up and other lifestyle choices.
  • An individualized home exercise program is prescribed to enable self-management.

What happens if you leave it untreated?

Generally, the longer you have had the injury, the longer it will take to recover.  Most of the time, you may assume things will get better by themselves with enough rest.  But this is rarely the case, especially if your pain or other symptoms are stopping you from doing what you normally able to do.  So, take action and get back doing what you love as soon as possible.

Book Your Appointment today at Leap Physio & Rehab! We will be happy to assist you in your recovery.
